SEFIRAT HA'OMER: The forty-nine days between Passover and Shavuot are counted, the days and the weeks. During this time the 'omer, or barley offering, was brought to the Temple. This calendar is coded to keep track of both the weekly and daily cycles. The the blessing which is made before counting is flanked by the barley design. Surrounding this are the biblical verses which tell us to bring the offering and count the period between the holidays.

Some Jews have the minhag of stating which of the sefirot are assicated with each day and week. The colors here, and the shiv'at haminim, seven "fruits" of the land of Israel, are associated with those sefirot. The color coding is for those who follow this minhag. (19" diameter) (S012)
