SCROLL OF ESTHER: This is the third of six panels in a fourteen foot long Megillat Esther, Scroll of Esther. This room of the palace is decorated with the shivat haminim, the seven "fruits" of the land of Israel. They are grapes, olives, figs, dates, pomegranates, wheat, and barley. Note the Hebrew letters on the pillars. Hidden throughout the megillah is a verse from the Torah which the sages tell us was a hint that the Purim story was to take place. The verse talks about the day G-d will hide his face from the Jewish people. The word for "I will hide" is astir, which is a variant on the name Esther. This is the only book of the Bible in which G-d's name does not appear.
